Interview with shoe designer Marta Jonsson

Shoe designer Marta Jonsson’s love of shoes developed when she worked on the shop floor of a footwear boutique. Her understanding of what her customers want along with her passion for shoes has made her an international success. Her philosophy has always been to design stylish yet comfortable shoes for all occasions.
Here we have a fabulous interview with Marta Jonsson, all about her amazing shoe collection and her inspiration. Enjoy!
How many shoe and accessory collections do you design?
I create two collections each year and introduce new styles to the brand every six weeks. This allows me to stay on top of all the emerging trends and means my customers are always spoilt for choice. My main focus is creating beautiful shoes for women each season, but I love designing bags and clutches to coordinate.
What has been your inspiration behind the A/W 2010 collections?
This season’s collection takes inspiration from the catwalk and one of my cherished cities in the world, Miami. One of my favourite designs is the lace up, ski hook boots, which are reminiscent of the Victoriana styles that dominated at the Marc Jacobs show. Miami has always inspired me as it oozes glamour and the multitude of creativity there always captivates me. I used sumptuous suedes in deep jewel colours to add intensity, while taupes and tans are a natural progression from summer’s nude shades. The focus as always is on key wearable styles that are not over the top but still provide something different and a sense of value through quality design.
Following the mantra: ‘look after your feet, and they’ll look after you’, how you do ensure that a pair of Marta Jonsson shoes are not only stylish but also comfortable?
I have specially developed ‘Soft in-Step by Marta’, a unique cushioning support fitted to the insole of every shoe that I design. My objective; women around the world can comfortably wear gorgeous heels all day and every day. Style and elegance should never be compromised by discomfort. All our shoes and accessories are crafted with love in Portugal, and made from the finest leathers and materials. I have always considered comfort and high quality just as important as style.
Are there any celebrities who wear your shoes?
Over the years I have attracted a number of celebrity fans including Kelly Brook, the Crown Princess of Norway, Katie Price and Mischa Barton who was most recently spotted wearing our wedge lace up ankle boot – a key look for this season.
Women cannot resist a pair of shoes. How many pairs do you have at home?
I have actually lost count of how many shoes I have now but I would imagine it’s in the region of one hundred. I could never choose a favourite though as I cherish every single one of them, they are like my babies!
